I heard this poem by Judy Grahn recited by Ani DIfranco a while ago. Ever since then it's been my favorite poem ever.
Detroit Annie, Hitchhiking
Her words pour out as if her throat were a broken artery
and her mind were cut-glass, carelessly handled.
You imagine her in a huge velvet hat with great
dangling black feathers, but she shaves her head instead
and goes for three-day midnight walks.
Sometimes she goes down to the dock and dances
off the end of it,
simply to prove her belief
that people who cannot walk on water are phonies,
When she is cruel, she is very, very cool
and when she is kind she is lavish.
Fisherman think perhaps she's a fish,
but they're all fools.
She figured out that the only way
to keep from being frozen was to
stay in motion, and long ago converted
most of her flesh into liquid.
Now when she smells danger,
she spills herself all over,
like gasoline, and lights it.
She leaves the taste of salt and iron
under your tongue, but you don't mind.
The common woman is as common as the reddest wine.
So you know how there's a clown car? Well, my vehicle is the Crazy Cat Lady Car. Bingo is my black/white tuxedo on the hood and the black cat sitting on the roof is my outdoor stray I feed daily. Her name is Ms. Phipps and she'sso sweet.
I tried my hand at making a wreath. I got the inspiration from Pinterest. It's not exactly like the ones on Pinterest. I put my own little spin on the burlap wreath. I'm so excited cuz it's the first time I made a wreath. I'm sure the next time I make one for spring or winter I will get better at it.
Yesterday Stevie, Natty, Chloe, and I took a trip to the Northshore. It was fun even though the store we went to visit was closed. On the ride back I saw this lovely sunset. I like when I see something so beautiful and so natural. I made Stevie take a pic and I think he did a great job of capturing it's beauty.
My due date is about 19 days away and I am so exctied. Everyday I think of different reasons why I love being a mom. Since I only have one kid, the reasons revolve around Natty.
Whenever I go through the pictures on my phone I always find random pics of her doing things. It makes me laugh every time. She is 5 and knows how to get in my phone and use the camera, play games, or whatever she feels like. She doesn't send text yet because she can't read.
There will come a day when she sends text to my friends though. I bet that will be funny to me, but annoying to them. But in the meantime, seeing her random pictures makes my day.
She took this one last weekend after we came back from Disney on Ice.
There has been a shakeup with the strawberry lemonade at Jazzfest!!! I saw this article on nola.com. It turns out, it's not made by the same person who made it famous in the first place. I don't know how I feel about this. I don't know if I could ever tell the difference.
I was kinda bummed out that I can't go to Jazzfest this year since I'm at the end of my pregnancy. I was looking forward to the strawberry lemonade, and some of my other favorites. I guess I will have to follow an internet recipe and make it myself at home.
There are certain things that Natty does that reminds me of me when I was a kid. I love it. It brings me back to a special place. She loves these cream colored gloves and wears them all the time. Even though it is warming up outside, she wears these gloves a lot.
The gloves remind me of when I was a kid I had this cheeta print undershirt and I LOVED it so much. I would wear it all the time. Life was so simple then. I remember waiting for my mom to do laundry just so I could wear this undershirt again. It was such a special time and so funny. I hope when Natty is a mom she can look back and remember fun stuff like that too.
